![]() It might seem excessive, but there’s a reason for every different type of tomato in this recipe. Why are there three types of tomato products in this recipe? The cooking time might change slightly when you’re browning the meat, but as long as you keep an eye on it, you should be fine. If you’re steering clear of ground beef (pardon the pun), you can use ground turkey, ground chicken, or ground pork instead. If you’re eating with friends, the pot will be empty before you can go back for more. A cup of cheddar cheese melted in at the end seals the deal on the flavor package. ![]() Our version is simplified but no less flavorful: onions, garlic, and three forms of tomato come together to season the beef, and because the pasta cooks in the skillet, it’s infused with the tomato and beef broth from the very beginning. Traditional goulash is typically made with larger chunks of beef and vegetables that cook low and slow together for hours until the meat becomes tender. Goulash originated in medieval Hungary, where it was first prepared by herdsmen-so you know it’s bound to be hearty and filling. And if you’re hooked on the new pasta-cooking hack, check out this Italian Mac ‘n’ Cheese– it’s one of our all-time favorite baked pastas. Read on for more information and tips on this easy weeknight dinner. ![]() Once you cook pasta this way, you’ll never go back to boiling water again. We love that everything in this goulash cooks together in one pot– even the pasta! Cooking the macaroni directly in the goulash means the pasta gets to soak up all that beef and tomato flavor while simultaneously releasing some of its starch into the pan, thickening the goulash to create a hearty, comforting stew.

As the game’s popularity increased in Japan, its designation was eventually shortened to include only the characters for number (数 - Su) and single (独 - Doku), resulting in the name by which we now know it, Sudoku. The second and most import rule is that no more than 32 numbers out of the 81 can be given away, as the goal becomes too easy to reach above this threshold. ![]() The given numbers in the beginning must create a pattern in their allocated squares to make the game more visually appealing to the players. Nikoli also introduced two new rules that became essential to the game as we know it today. Its widespread popularity didn’t come until the game reached Japan in 1984 when Nikoli published it under the name “Suuji wa dokushin ni kaguru” (The numbers must remain single) in the Monthly Nikolist Magazine. The modern Sudoku as we know it nowadays, however, using digits instead of the Latin alphabet, was most likely the creation of Howard Garns, an architect from Indiana who first published his version of the game in the Dell Magazines in 1979. The basis of the game originated in Switzerland in the 18th century when the mathematician Leonhard Euler developed the concept of Latin Squares used in statistical analysis. ![]() ![]() Some more text set in Pragmata is below, but I used it also for my recent FireMonkey webinar: Fabrizio was so kind to give me a free license to the font, but I was more than willing to pay for it. Still, I'm not earning anything by promoting his fonts, I think the quality of his work deserves it). (Disclaimer: the author of PragmataPro is the designer of my book covers and a person I have a business relationship with. This ProgamataPro font is the extension of the older Pragmata font, by the same author, Fabrizio Schiavi, a font designer who made this fixed-size font specifically for programmers. As you can see pragmata is as tall as Courier (Lucida let's you fit more lines in the editor), but Pragmata is more compact horizontally, so you can fit 80 or even 100 characters in the screen, even with all those side panes that Delphi and other IDEs use these days. These iamges show the same text in Courier New, Lucida Consule, and PragmataPro all at size 12. In the past I often moved from the classic Courier New (the default in Delphi) to Lucida Console (which I prefer to showing code when I do a presentation). There aren't many fixed size fonts out there. Of course, your choice of fonts is limited by the fact you need a fixed with font, and not a proportional one, so that words show up in "columns" and indentation works as expected. When is the last time you change font of your preferred editor? While we spend a lot of time reading and writing source code, we often forget the the readability of what is on the screen depends also on the font we use. Before I get to the key topic, let me underline that fact that most of you probably spend a lot of time using an editor (either the one in the Delphi IDE, or the editor of in Visual Studio, Eclipse, on any other IDE, as well as stand alone editors). I've been using the PragmataPro font in Delphi recently and I really like it a lot. Sometimes I don't need the dates, because the uncertainty of the amount of work, and the details are too unknown, so it is just a rough sketch. I use dependencies to mark connections between important tasks, so that I can observe those key points on the critical path to make sure there won't be a delay. Then I bring the detail in, and sometimes I see we have overlooked something, and it will take longer. I would add dates to the top-level tasks, so we have a high-level roadmap, which still needs to be verified. We have a kickoff meeting with the stakeholders and key people from each team, where we try to build an overview and see how long running the project might be. I use these as starting points, and do a rough roadmap: "okay, we can start in 3 weeks time, we can do the preparation in 4 weeks, but there is a risk that the contract phase may require more time if the legal team is overloaded". Depending on the project, if I have any specific due dates for particular tasks, then I put them in as well - usually, the start date is known, and sometimes the end date if the client says "we need this done by December", and so I need to see if its feasible.įor a rollout project like this, we have a preparation phase, a pilot phase, and then a go-live phase. I start with the Spreadsheet View, because I can quickly hack in the tasks without any specifics, and then I work them out later. When we spoke to Michael, he was in the initial stages of a high-tech communications rollout across a company with hundreds of branches, and building expectations early in the project is crucial to gain the customer's trust. ![]() ![]() Starting from what is knownĪ key for Michael getting a project off the ground quickly is Aeon Timeline's flexibility to quickly assemble task lists on limited information, and only introduce or work out dates when they become relevant. Aeon Timeline is actually the only tool I can use directly, where all the interconnections and different project aspects are integrated into one tool. I can drag stuff around and edit dates, I can make changes in Relationship view. That's what makes Aeon Timeline valuable - it is presentable while still being interactive. If I fire up JIRA in a management meeting and I say "okay, let's find the task we're discussing now, because I need to change the dates", it isn't feasible. At the end of the meeting, it is already done, and I just attach it to the meeting notes. They are often heated in some respects, so if we can change dates, structure and responsibilities immediately and show the results, it helps bring efficiency and accountability. It helps me to be agile in those meetings and not forget things. ![]() Live edits without the glazed eyesįor Michael, it is when he takes the timeline into customer meetings that Aeon Timeline really stands out as a tool that allows him to present information visually, and update it on the fly, during client discussions.Īeon Timeline is beautiful, because you can tailor it to a certain scenario using the customer's language, and still have all the interconnections and flexibility in there. I don't need to take screenshots and make it beautiful - because the interface is well designed, I can use the tool itself without scaring management out of the room. I group tasks to create a "management view" of the timeline, so when I have board meetings I can collapse those groups to show a high-level roadmap. When I sit with a client and discuss certain aspects of the project, it is ideal - when people look at a timeline, when they see the relationship matrix, they understand inherently what it is. In most cases it wasn't possible to do this while they were at the table, it was just too inconvient or cumbersome.Īeon Timeline is my secret weapon to bring us together. I would sit in a meeting with 14 other people, and they would note down changes, and go back to their tools to refine it. They had screenshots or printouts from Microsoft Project, and it was very clunky. Vanguard doesn't care. Vanguard screwed their "smaller" Target Date Fund customers (less than $5M in a fund) who had a fund in a non-retirement account. They caused an unnecessary tax event by incentivizing their larger customers to leave the non-institutional share class. This caused huge capital gains income for the customers left behind. Turns out there was a way to give the incentive to their larger customers without creating capital gains. All they had to do was just merge the classes. Vanguard then gave a final FU by merging the classes after they caused the capital gains income. If I had $1M in one of the funds, I would have been bumped to a higher tax bracket, had to pay the full 3.8% investment tax, AND had to pay additional $11K Medicare premiums-total: $40K out of pocket!
